Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater

The more technology takes over our daily lives, the more we become distanced from our own bodies. As the world unfolds in our minds, in our heads and in our eyes, we forget about another essential part of us - our physical body. For it is only the body, together with the mind and the spirit, that makes the human being a complex whole. Of course, we can talk about the cult of the body - an exaggerated emphasis on physical appearance, but Marius Pinigis’ and Andrian Carlo Bibiano’s dance performance “Bodies” focuses on the body as an instrument that can speak and express one’s inner thoughts. The dance performance “Bodies” is not based on a play, there is no linear narrative. It is built around the idea that bodily communication is irreplaceable.

About the event

This idea raises the question of how to awaken the bodies, how to enable them to speak again? On the theatre stage, actors usually convey their ideas in words, which we take as a reflection of the intellect. This time, the performers are reclaiming the forgotten language that lies within each one of us. Ten different generations of actors experiment and enter into discussion about the shared energy and changes that take place when communicating. After all, dance is not just an attribute of a young person, it does not stop at a certain age and, even more so, it is not only for professionals.

Choreographer Marius Pinigis says: “I believe that it is not necessary to give a logical explanation for actions in a performance, regardless of its style or genre, because our daily lifes are based on irrational things. If we look into our own minds, we would not find a smooth linear thinking, and that is why “Bodies” consists of image-based scenes, open to the interpretation of the observer. The dancers do not create specific situations or offer solutions but are making references to them instead.”

“Bodies” invites the spectator to immerse themselves in the visuality of the performance. It encourages not to overload one’s head with the search of meaning(s) and not to be afraid of not understanding everything.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
